willing to take the best of our traditions and combine them with the newest
possibilities. In other words, we must take our collective experience and history
and combine it with new thinking and technology.  For example, can the workshops
of our National Leadership Conference be broadcast via the web at the time they
occur?  This gives some brothers the ability to learn with some convenience at
less cost.  Could we provide teleconference technology to brothers who are ill and
cannot make formal chapter meetings?  Can we provide survival and technology
training to the boys who attend our summer camps at the same time?  Could we set
up web conferences and blog sites for the Pan-Hellenic Council on issues that
effect us all?  The answer to all of these questions is yes!  We have the ability and
vision to make all of these things occur and much more.  However, it will take a
little courage to step out and be risks takers.

As we seek to realign who and what we are to our community, our greatest
traditions will have to be married to our newest innovations in thinking and
technology.  In fact, our strategic vision depends on in it.  Just as important, we
must be willing and intentional participants.  Our commitment must show in our
desire to do things different.

Fear not my brothers and let us take the opportunity to be courageous and
innovative.  It is mine in 2009.

Fraternally yours,

Brother Patrick C. Graham, Ph.D.

sense of fear and reserve for many everyday people.  Some
organizations are withdrawing from innovation to preserve their
possessions and have fallen into a state of paralysis.  I believe
this type of thinking and behavior is totally off base.

As an organization seeking “to be a model Chapter that is
visible, effective, self-sustaining, and growing to support the
needs of its community,” we must be risks takers.  We must be
Brothers of Pi Phi,
The King James Version of the Holy Bible cites the phrase, “Fear not,” 365 times
throughout the “Good Book.”  That means we have a vote of confidence and a
dose of courage from the Lord for everyday of the year.
